Week 1 NFL Quick Hits

  • Browns’ defense looks real again. They shut down Burrow, and despite Flacco throwing two picks, Cleveland lost by only one. That said, I think they’ll struggle to defend Baltimore.

  • Packers front seven vs. Lions OL: Either GB’s front is elite or Detroit’s line isn’t the same—worst Lions rushing game in three years.

  • Ravens offense = best in the league. Ravens looked better than Bills to me, but not overreacting to this game. Bills D looked really soft at Safety and LB once again this year.

  • Tampa Bay’s rush defense is legit. Just like last year.

  • Miami’s defense looks shaky. Colts put up tons of points. Interesting to see how both teams play out from here — I assumed they were pretty even on paper but that was not the case.

  • Don’t trust the Cardinals (same story).

  • Jets/Steelers: Don’t overreact to anything from that game. Justin Fields probably gets an upgrade though. Rodgers as well.

  • Commanders aren’t elite. Wilson completed ~40% and had many chances to get into that game. Maybe Commanders pass rush is decent but I wasn’t super impressed with the win.

  • Denver ≠ elite. Didn’t cover; Bo Nix regression may be starting. Leaning fade on Denver for now.

    • Tony Pollard looks like a true workhorse. Tons of carries playing from behind in a tighter game.

  • Seattle rush D was stout; they held McCaffrey in check (finished last year strong, picked up where they left off in game 1).

  • 49ers already banged up with key players out.

  • Houston offense looks poor (could be Rams D being very good, but leaning “Houston looks bad” and still needs to fix their line).

  • Dallas passing game is solid. Sets up an interesting spot vs. the Giants next week as sizable favorites. 6 points feels like too much and overreaction but we’ll see.

  • Chiefs pass D looked rough or the Chargers’ passing game is elite — KC allowed guys to run wide open all game.

  • Vikings offense could struggle this season. They did all their damage at the end and Bears missing best players on D.

  • Caleb Williams: crazy fast, improvises well; awareness in-structure still developing and he missed many throws. Minnesota’s D-line looked pretty solid too. He looks like a rookie-version of Mike Vick running around and throwing inaccurate lasers.

  • Eagles added Tank Bigsby. Always thought he had juice — good pickup.

  • Early read: Packers > Commanders. Expect GB to slow Washington’s offense; with the Commanders’ D looking good vs. the Giants, I’ll be eyeing unders here. Total at 48 feels high. Jordan Love passing yards under 224.5.
